The 18-hole golf course was designed by Scotsman John Chilver-Stainer. The entire golf course, especially the greens, were modeled in the style of the classic “links golf courses” of Scotland.
The philosophy of this golf course design is based on a blend of the strategic, penal and heroic schools. The term links or links course is used to describe a particular type of golf course modeled after the original courses in Britain where golf also began.
The Links Leuk golf course is the only one of its kind in Switzerland! The game of golf on links courses is primarily complicated by strong and unexpectedly changing winds, but also the very fast and often undulating fairways due to the hard sandy soil make the ball bounce uncontrollably. Furthermore, a links course is characterized by its deep sand bunker, the dense rough and its hard and fast greens. Another characteristic of links courses is the traditional routing of the holes.
